A visit to the Central Market, also known as the “Bazar” of Port Louis will give you a full picture of the eclectic, quirky and enchanting Mauritian culture. While wandering around you can find fresh produce such as tropical fruits, vegetables, spices and dried herbs, fresh fish and seafood. We recommend local fritters such as “gato piment”, the famous “alouda” and “dhall puri” which are common local foods. You will also be presented with local crafts such as handmade souvenirs, jewellery by local craftspeople, hand-carved wooden products from local artists, paintings and fabulous coral jewellery made of shells from our beautiful beaches. From there, you can visit the city’s China Town before heading to Caudan Waterfront where a large shopping complex awaits you, comprising luxury duty free shops, food court and exquisite restaurants.
